Queensland’s premier speedway sedan series will be unleashed on Queensland’s premier speedway venue this Saturday night (February 25) when round nine of the Think Money Super Sedan Championship Series is decided at Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway. The previous round at Lismore produced some superb racing, plenty of controversy and an action-packed final few laps that resulted in just eight cars making it to the finish. Desperately unlucky to lose the Lismore event after leading into the final lap, Queensland champion Matt Pascoe will be determined to avoid a similar scenario this Saturday, but he will again find himself under plenty of pressure from quality opposition on a track that always enables close competition.

A two-time national champion, Pascoe has an affinity with winning and the two performances prior to his Lismore letdown were his Queensland Championship win in Toowoomba and a total domination of the Gold Cup race in Gympie, so there seems little doubt that he will bounce back this weekend. After starting the season with a flourish that saw him establish a substantial lead in the championship standings, Gympie’s Mark Pagel endured a mid-season slump (by his lofty standards) but bounced back very strongly in Lismore to finish fourth and reaffirm his status as series leader. Having won the previous Think Money round at Archerfield, another such result on Saturday could put Pagel on the cusp of wrapping up his first SSA championship.

A long way out of contention for much of the round eight feature race on his home track at Lismore, Wayne Brims produced a whirlwind finish that ultimately netted him third spot and delivered a timely reminder of his status as one of the best in business. Brims will be one of two NSW-based drivers competing on Saturday night, with Brian Trevithick also trekking north to Brisbane from Inverell for the event.

Of all the drivers competing this weekend, Wayne Randall is by far the most experienced and, as one of those who failed to go the distance in round eight, the four-time Queensland titleholder will be looking to make amends. With more feature race victories at Archerfield than the rest of the field combined, Randall will be primed to add yet another win to his already extensive list of career highlights.

With drivers coming from far and wide for the event, which is proudly presented by AFCO Shock Doctor and Queensland Speedway Spares, also amongst the nominations are Bob McCosker, Brendan Doyle, David Musch, Rodney Craft, Mark O’Brien, David O’Keefe, Jack Childs, Dempsie Pails, Nicholas O’Keefe, Tony Brinkmann and newcomer Ed Doherty. In the last two rounds of racing, Brinkmann has enjoyed some solid results after a series of setbacks in the early rounds and if he can continue his recent form it will be no surprise to see him finish inside the top five.

At the conclusion of the qualifying heats, the top eight drivers will take part in the Penrite Grid Draw to finalise the starting order on the first four rows of the gird for the 40-lap feature event.
