• Current and two-time Australian Champion Liam Williams speed to victory in last Saturday night’s third KRE F500 Championship Series round at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway, while youngsters James Kennedy and Tristan Johnson joined Williams on the podium.

Starting the feature race from pole position, Williams, who was debuting a brand-new Pace chassis and engine package on the night, continued his dominance, leading the 15-lap journey from start to finish and driving to his fourth victory of the season.

Coming home in the runner-up spot behind Williams, Kennedy finally managed to crack into the top three after spending last season consistently knocking on the door for a podium, while Johnson claimed his second podium for the season by virtue of a third-place finish.

The top five remained unchanged for the duration of the feature race, with Kaydon Iverson and Bryn Upshall finishing in fourth and fifth respectively.

Tomas Partington had a good run, crossing the line in sixth, followed by Speedcar racer Anthony Chaffey, whose son (Boyd) raced on the night in the Junior Formula 500s, in what was his maiden appearance in the class. The finishers were completed by Ethan Eyears, Royce Harvey, Brad Van Elswyk and Glen Douglas.

It was a disappointing result for Ryan McNamara and Piper Ogilvie, who collided on lap two of the feature race, with McNamara riding out a huge crash. Both drivers were thankfully unharmed; however, their cars had sustained too much damage to continue and both were forced to retire – particularly McNamara’s whose car suffered substantial damage. Graham Williams was the only other non-finisher in the feature race.

Earlier in the night, heat-race wins were shared between Kennedy, Iverson, Williams and Eyears. The latter put in an impressive performance to take his first heat-race win in only his third meeting in the Formula 500s class.

The hard-luck stories from the heat races were rookie Vicki Canfield, who suffered a DNF in her opening heat race after experiencing chain problems, and Kristin Brown, who blew a head gasket aboard her engine in her opening heat race. Both drivers had their nights brought to a premature end.

Teenager Boyd Chaffey was the dominant force in the Junior Formula 500s, coming away with three out of the four heat-race victories. The remaining heat-race win went the way of Bodie Smith.

The fourth round of the KRE F500 Championship Series is going to be held at Gatton’s Lockyer Valley Speedway on the Saturday night of November 19.
