• The winners of the opening two rounds of the Think Money Super Sedan Championship Series headline the driver line-up for round three of the championship at Rockhampton Speedway this Saturday night (October 29), proudly presented by Barnes Drilling. It was Mark Pagel who won the opening round in Bundaberg and then Jordan triumphed in round two in Brisbane and, with $2000 up for grabs to the feature race winner this weekend, there is no doubt that both men will be fired up and focussed on grabbing the cash.
Despite possessing distinctly different personalities, Pagel and Jordan share a propensity for speed and both drivers have a wealth of experience and a history of success to draw upon every time they hit the track. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that the pair have been the frontrunners so far this season despite facing off against quality opposition on each occasion.

In terms of experience the only driver in the field who brings more to the table is veteran Wayne Randall. A five-time state title winner and two-time champion in the National Super Sedan Series, Randall missed the opening round but produced a sensational drive to in round two to surge from deep in the field to finish sixth. Given his great result despite starting from position 19, if he can avoid the problems that befell him in the heats in Brisbane, Randall looms as the biggest threat to Pagel and Jordan this weekend.

Of course, Ian Brims is another genuine contender given his experience and strong form in the opening two rounds, with Jack Childs, Nicholas O’Keefe, John Sheehan, Barry Craft, David O’Keefe and Craig Craft also making the trek north for the showground showdown. Traditionally, Rockhampton events have been a battle for supremacy between the home track heroes and the visiting stars from throughout Queensland and interstate, although this year just five drivers will fight for the pride of the region, namely Glenn Knox, Gavin Northfield, Glenn Boulter, Brendan Doyle and Gladstone’s Bob McCosker, who took out the SSA Development Series last season. Of these, Northfield is perhaps the most likely to upstage the out-of-towners but the atmosphere at Rockhampton Speedway is always electric and there is no doubt the grandstand will erupt with support every time the locals hit the track.

Each driver will contest three qualifying heats to determine the initial starting order for the 30-lap feature race before the top six qualifiers finalise their grid positions via the Penrite Grid Draw. The remainder of the grid will be determined by points scored in the heats and the circular layout of the Rockhampton track always provides plenty of close racing with drivers afforded little opportunity to catch their breath.
