• This Saturday night’s Aussie Forklift Repairs NSW Wingless Sprint Championship features a massive 58-car field and only one previous winner in the driver line-up.

Now QLD domiciled Adam Butler, who won the inaugural title in 2008, will return to try and become only the second driver to win two NSW crowns – a feat also achieved by now USC Sprintcar driver Jay Waugh (2010-2012)

Based on the Gold Coast the 41 year old insurance broker has been based in QLD for three years from his native Canberra and believes that the caliber of cars entered for this Saturday night makes it more like the standard of an Aussie title.

“There’s only about four guys missing from the field and you’d have every one of the best drivers in the country here. Queenslander Scott Thomsen has won two Queensland titles and qualified on the front row for last year’s national title at Toowoomba. He’ll be one of the fastest non-NSW drivers for sure.”

If Butler isn’t able to claim the NSW Title this Saturday night will feature the fifth new victor in the six times the event has been held at various venues across the State.

The last recorded winner was Sydney’s Damien Abbott in 2014 but with “the Rabbit” (as he’s affectionately known) out with 2009-a broken leg and without a wingless ride anyway and all other titleholders except Butler not in the field there’s a big chance a new champion may be crowned.

Previous winners of the NSW title include:

2008 – Adam Butler (who now lives in QLD)
2009 – now USC racer Alex Orr
2010 – now USC racer Jay Waugh (ACT)
    2011 – Michael Santin (Lismore)
2012 – Jay Waugh (so far the only repeat winner)
    2013 – not held
2014 – Damien Abbott (this year back to USC Sprintcars)
    2015 - TONIGHT

History will show that the Wingless Sprints car counts have exploded across the country and are well into the 300’s for a number of reasons, but the main one being affordability.

They’re also a tremendously competitive category where the biggest racing budget seems to have little impact on securing race wins.

It’s also been a happy hunting ground for lady racers at Valvoline Raceway with Nikki Briton, Ashleigh Jack, Mikaela Blyton (on maternity leave) Sarah Kane and Monique Davis to name a few really giving it a shake.

Jason Bates really seems to be on a mission this season and the #41 must go into title as a real dark horse for securing his first NSW title.

One can never underestimate the Dicker boys but the Thomas boys too are a significant chance to secure a NSW title victory. This pristine three car team has caught everyone’s eye and although the odds of them finishing 1-2-3 are long the concept itself would be historic.

There are also the O’Brien brothers, Harley Smee, The Pacchiarottas, Geoff Piekar, the Flood boys – the list goes on and on.

Victorians Wayne Logue, Geoff Cook, Peter Logue, Rhys Baxter, Wayne Hurford, Daniel Storer, Luke Storer, Luke Weel and Matty Balcombe would love to hijack the NSW title and take the trophy home.

Also on the program this Saturday night are Speedcars (with NZ star Brad Mosen a surprising late nomination) Super Sedans (with interstate stars Matt Pascoe, Darren Kane, Trent Wilson, Peter Nicola, Mick Nicola and Mick Nicola Jr), Formula 500’s (with Australian champion Liam Williams) and Lightning Sprints.
