• Another hectic season of Sprintcar competition at Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway is edging closer to conclusion, with only two nights of competition remaining to decide both the East Coast Logistics Crispy Memorial Series and the overall Archerfield Track Championship. This Saturday night (May 21) will see the penultimate Sprintcar showdown for 2015/2016 when more than 25 drivers hit the track for round four of the Crispy Memorial Series. The previous round produced an upset of sorts when Brent Aprile emerged triumphant in another cracking feature race, leading home boom rookie Lachlan McHugh and Kevin Titman.

The first half of the previous round feature race saw former national champion Dave Murcott and current Queensland champion Luke Oldfield duelling at the front of the field until contact between the pair sent them both into a spin and out of contention, with Supercheap Auto Series winner Andrew Scheuerle and defending track champion Bryan Mann amongst those involved in the ensuing melee. Expect Murcott and Oldfield to be fired up and fully focussed on making amends this weekend, while Scheuerle and Mann will be hoping to steer clear should any similar such scenario play out again. McHugh, who already has a feature win to his name this season, will be a strong contender, along with fellow teenagers in Mitchell Gee and Callum Walker. Throw in Aprile, Titman, Brent Kratzmann, Brandon Rawlings, Ben Hilder, Mark Pholi, Victoria’s Peter Milnes and Sydney-based former Territorian Ben Atkinson and there are plenty of potential race winners in the field.

A field in excess of 20 drivers from throughout Queensland and New South Wales will lock horns in the annual Wingless Sprint 50 lapper. Much more so than a typical feature race distance, 50 laps is a test of stamina and set-up as much as skill, so those drivers who have completed plenty of laps with a record of success at Archerfield this season should fancy their chances. Look for Dan Moes, Adam Butler and Brad Keiler to feature prominently in the results with experienced Dubbo-based veteran Mark Blyton leading the interstaters into battle.

Compact Speedcar action will again see Australian champion Darren Vine as the man to beat, his main threat expected to come from Rob Stewart and Kristin Brown in the absence of multi-state titleholder Wayne Corbett.

Likewise in the Lightning Sprint events, national champion Kurt Wilson will be very hard to contain given his sensational form here and elsewhere this season. Of the rest, Keith Blatch, Kirsty Kelly and Jeremy Hassall might be the trio most likely should Wilson strike trouble.

The Queensland Stockcar Championship and Open Sedans complete another big Saturday night Archerfield program, which gets underway at 4.45pm.

Sprintcar time trials are scheduled for 5pm, with the main program from 5.45pm. Gates open at 4.00pm, with adult tickets just $25.00.
