• Sprintcars return to Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway this Saturday night (May 7) for the next instalment in the chase for the East Coast Logistics Crispy Memorial Series. In his first outing since clinching the Queensland Championship two weeks ago, Luke Oldfield heads the entry list for round three of the series held in honour of popular speedway identity Greg McLennan. As is the case so often at Queenslands home of Sprintcar racing, an assortment of interstate aces are amongst the entries, including two-time national champ David Murcott, South Australian youngster Jake Tranter and Victoria’s Peter Milnes.

Murcott needs no introduction given his record of success around the country and, having endured a series of misfortunes in the opening two rounds of the Crispy Memorial series, the Victoria-based Murcott bounced back to finish second in the Queensland Championship and will be primed to procure a place on the podium once again. Tranter has shown good form during his extended Queensland campaign, while the unheralded Milnes impressed during the Queensland Title and might just prove a contender come this Saturday night.

Of course Oldfield has been in blistering form of late, consistently emerging on top of the score sheets in time trials and finishing on the feature race podium, culminating in a dominant display on both nights of the Queensland Championship to emerge with his first state crown. Round two of the Crispy Memorial Series saw perennial Archerfield front runner Andrew Scheuerle take the win, hot on the heels of his win in the Supercheap Auto Series. With the opening round feature race not held due to inclement weather, Scheuerle can strengthen his grip on both the Crispy Memorial Series and the overall Archerfield Track Championship with another feature-winning display on Saturday.

Add drivers the calibre of Peter Lack, Lachlan McHugh, Brent Kratzmann, Mitchell Gee, Kevin Titman and defending track champ Bryan Mann into the mix and all the ingredients are in place to cook up something very tasty indeed. The form of Matthew Butler since his return to competition has also been impressive, with Richard Morgan, Ben Hilder, Brandon Rawlings, Mark Pholi, and Brent Aprile also adding plenty of spice to a mouth-watering mix of youth and experience in what promises to be a smorgasbord of sizzling Sprintcar action.

Modlites are also back in action this weekend, with Terry Leerentveld making his first appearance since successfully defending his Australian Championship here last month. Championship runner-up Sean Butcher and Aaron Prosser, who qualified on pole position for the Australian Championship final, seem likely to be Leerentvelds most serious threats once again but they will need to produce something special to end what has been a remarkable winning streak for the Dalby-based racer.

Having produced one of their best feature race displays for the season at their last outing, Compact Speedcars are also on the program for Saturday night, along with Formula 500’s and AMCA Nationals, who provided plenty of great racing last Saturday night in their Queensland Championship event.

Spectator gates open at 4.00pm with early racing from 4.45pm. Sprintcars hit the track at 6.00pm, with adult tickets just $25.00.
