• After a lengthy break to accommodate Warrnambools Grand Annual Classic and the Australian Sprintcar Title, the Supercheap Auto Sprintcar Track Championship bursts back into life this weekend with a 25-car field set to be unleashed on Saturday night (February 13). Can Andrew Scheuerle consolidate his championship lead or will the likes of Bryan Mann, Luke Oldfield, Brent Kratzmann, Kevin Titman, Mitchell Gee or Lachlan McHugh find their way to victory lane?

With the exception of American superstar Donny Schatz and newly crowned national champ Kerry Madsen, Scheuerle is the only driver to win a Sprintcar feature race at Archerfield this season. Others have come close but have always fallen short and it will be most interesting to see if anybody can get the job done on this occasion. There is talent galore in the field, with Callum Walker, Ben Hilder and Brandon Rawlings having also shown glimpses of great form so far without breaking through for a feature win.

Scheurele currently enjoys a 133-point lead in the track championship standings over Oldfield, with Titman third overall just 88 points further back. Schatz is next best, which makes Kratzmann effectively fourth despite a wretched run of luck, while Mann has surged into the top five despite missing the first four rounds. More than 50 drivers have contested the championship so far, a statistic that only serves to accentuate the consistent quality of Scheuerles performances each week.

Veteran V8 Supercar racer and 2014 Bathurst 1000 champion Paul Morris is a regular fixture in Brisbane’s Sprintcar ranks and will be competing once again this weekend. However, Saturday night might just be the first time we have two Bathurst race winners competing on the same night at Archerfield. Whilst Morris will be in the thick of the Sprintcar action looking to repeat his podium placing from earlier this season, also competing on Saturday night will be third-generation racer Aaron Seton, fresh from a class win in the Bathurst 12-hour event last weekend. On Sunday, Seton teamed with Jake Camilleri and Morgan Haber to win the Pro Invitational class, finishing nine laps ahead of their nearest rivals. This weekend, Seton will take on the challenge of becoming the first driver to beat Australian champion Terry Leerentveld in a Modlite feature event at Archerfield this season. With father Glenn working the wrenches, Aaron will looking to bring his black track form to the dirt and snare a breakthrough win.

Formula 500s also have a strong entry list with the NSW-based family team comprising Kye, Chase and Ken Norman taking on all the track regulars in round nine of their KRE Formula 500 Championship Series. Queensland champ and current series points leader Kaydon Iverson faces off against Charlie Brown, Ryan Skennar, Kristin Brown and former national champ Liam Williams, who was unstoppable in the previous round.

Having dominated so far this season, Kurt Wilson looks the driver most likely in a small field of Lightning Sprints, with Junior Formula 500s and Open Sedans completing another big program of events. Early racing underway from 4.45pm, Sprintcars will hit the track at 6.00pm and, as always, racing will be finished by 10.30pm.

Tickets are just $25 for adults and for more information about any event at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway, visit www.brisbanespeedway.com.au or like Archerfield Speedway on Facebook for news and updates in the lead-up to each race meeting.
