• One thing you notice with Adrian Haywood is that he always has a smile on his dial…

Last week though, that smile became a little wider and had some extra sparkle after his latest visit to his back specialist. “We’re going racing again and a lot sooner than expected!!” blurted from his mouth with a distinct tone of happiness.

Originally the winning Formula 500 driver expected to be out of the race seat for a minimum of 12 months, so naturally when he received the news that his back was healing exceptionally well and that the return to the track can happen mid year, his face lit up like the proverbial Cheshire Cat.

“Its good news, they're expecting a full recovery, no issues, everything is aligned where it should be and it cant get any better. I know the shape of the vertebrae I broke will be on that eleven degree angle but apart from that I’ll be right to go” he said excitedly this week.

Its been a slow and steady improvement for the Fitness Plus Franchisee, who has had enormous support from family, friends and colleagues through all this and cant thank them or the fans who have offered him support enough.

Through all this he has had to make some tough decisions about where, when and how to return to the race seat and to make all the pieces of the puzzle fit. As much as he loves the Formula 500 division, the future always had Sprintcars associated with it, so with the impending 2017 Australian 360 Championship to be held at the Perth Motorplex the decision was made to sell up all the F500 gear and purchase a car for next season.

“With the doctors saying six months, the 27th of June to me is the day I can make my comeback” he said with a wry smile. “It will depend on whats available calendar wise but I want to get behind the wheel asap so once I get the clearance from the doctor it will be all go from there.”

“Purchasing this 360 car came along at the right time. The chassis is an ex Shane Stewart/Monte Motorsport backup car that never saw any laps until it was used in 360ci competition for a handful of shows. Slotted into it is the ex Corey Gilpin Power Series Championship winning Higgs Built motor so I know its a reliable unit. It’s only done around eighteen shows so its still in good condition, but it will be going back to Higgsy for a freshen up before the summer season commences.”

As you can see by the smile on his face in the picture to the right, he has the mobility to get in the car to cure the itch for now but he is champing at the bit to get out on track, now the hard work starts to finalise sponsors for the upcoming 360ci campaign.

“While I’ve been laid up in bed thats the thing I have tried to concentrate on, planning what I want to achieve and how I need to pitch it to certain people on how they can be involved supporting my efforts, not only next year but also in the future when we step up into 410ci competition as well. Depending on results thats maybe something we may do before the end of next season to gain as much experience as we can” stated Haywood.

So from all the negatives there are so many positives to look forward to in the future for Adrian Haywood and the In10sity Motorsport Team. While he might have been ‘immobilised’ Haywood hasn't sat still!!
