The South Australian Speedway season officially gets underway at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway this October Long weekend with what is being dubbed “Super Sunday” with the meeting featuring Round 1 of the JD Couriers Super Series Presented by Blenk’s Automotive.

This Sunday night (October 4) will be the first of four consecutive weekends for the newly formed Super Sedans SA organised Series with events to follow at Speedway City (October 10), Murray Bridge (October 17) and a return to Speedway City on October 24.

The opening round of the 15 event series will see a quality field of drivers including current South Australian and Western Australian State Champion Dave Gartner from Penola. Last season Gartner remained undefeated at Murray Bridge so he will no doubt go into the event as the favourite. But he will have his hands full as he will be joined on track by exciting youngster Ryan Alexander, Michael Miller, Paul Blenkiron, Graham Stewart, Michelle Dillon and rookie Daniel Obst.

Last weekend a number of the competitors attended the Pre-Season Day Show with Alexander looking very impressive. Michael Miller was also on hand as he gave the brand new Steve and Wendy Stewart owned Dominator a shake-down run while Stewart lapped the 360 metre venue with improved pace. The day unfortunately didn’t go to plan for Michelle Dillon as her Dominator dropped the drive shaft covering the track in diff oil and ending her day early therefore she will be looking to bounce back with a strong run this Sunday night.

The final nomination is Riverland based rookie Daniel Obst, who will be making his Super Sedan debut behind the wheel of an ex Michael Doblo Rooster Chassis. Although new to the class Obst has plenty of Speedway experience having previously raced Wingless Sprints and 360ci Sprintcars.
