• Premier Speedway’s big pre-Christmas $5000.00 to win Sprintcar event will be more than just round 3 of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship Victoria, it will be more than just round 7 of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series, it will be Max’s Race!

That’s right Max Dumesny’s contribution to the sport of Sprintcar Racing and the legacy he has created, will be honored with the first ever staging of “Max’s Race” on Saturday December 19, 2015.

Dumesny, who hails from Nullawarre, just a couple of quick hot laps from Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool, has been a crowd favorite at Warrnambool for many years with his on-track successes being plentiful.

His career began with great success in the Formula 500 division, with the Australian Championship going Max’s way in 1980 and then again in 1982.

In the summer of 1983-84 Max made the switch to Sprintcar Racing, a move that has proven to be a masterstroke by Dumesny.

His list of achievements includes being an eight-time Victorian Sprintcar Champion among many other State Title victories as well as being a seven-time World Series Sprintcars Champion. In 1985 he won the prestigious “Race of States” at the famed Knoxville Raceway in the USA.

Dumesny has captured the Australian Sprintcar Championship on three occasions, with his first Championship win coming in 1991 at Tasmania’s Carrick Speedway. He then created history by becoming the first Victorian driver to win Warrnambool’s very own Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic when he saluted in 1992, before repeating that success in 1994 and 2004.

The annual Easter Sprintcar Trail has also proven to be a happy hunting ground for Dumesny, with 32 A-Main victories having been accumulated along the journey. Twelve of which have been achieved at Premier Speedway, Warrnambool amongst a host of other A-Main wins throughout what has been a stellar career.

“We have been working towards acknowledging Max and his racing achievements for some time, with some maybe suggesting that we already have, albeit somewhat informally, with the creating of Mt. Max. The idea was presented at a recent meeting and it was very strongly supported”, Premier Speedway General Manager David Mills said.

“To be able to honour Max in this way, was something we wanted to do and we feel it will create some real interest in what is becoming a key component of our race calendar. We also wanted to be sure that some key players in the decision, the likes of the SRA of Victoria and Max himself, were comfortable with what we are proposing and now it is all systems go”, Mills added.

SRA of Victoria President Ian Vale, quickly dispelled any concerns the Management of Premier Speedway had.

“When David mentioned this idea to me recently, I was 100% behind the idea, Max has been a loyal competitor and supporter not only of Premier Speedway, but also Sprintcar Racing in Victoria, he is already an Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria Life Member and we feel that to have a race named in his honour is very fitting”, Vale said.

“Max’s Race” will be held on Saturday December 19, 2015 at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway Warrnambool and will become an annual fixture on the Club’s calendar.
