• Just like a lot of nights this summer, the final meeting of the season at the Perth Motorplex promised so much for Daniel Harding, only for it to all come to naught as a destroyed left rear tyre on the One Life/Jolly Good Auto Electrics HR12 ended his run on the infield.

It was the last hurrah of the season and like every other racer on the night, Daniel Harding wanted nothing more than to come away from this summers last meeting with a good result. “It started well and looked like we were in for at least a podium finish, then just like a number of other occasions this summer it all went pear shaped with that blown tyre. All I can do is shake it off and focus on next year” said Harding this week.

After time trailing in fifth spot, Harding knew he needed a consistent run in his two heat races to advance in to the top eight knockout. He achieved this with a strong third in his opening race and then backed it up by moving forward a number of spots to come away with a sixth in his second, earning him a start in the second pole shuffle up against Brad Maiolo.

He claimed the first of the two lap knockouts before taking on Ryan Farrell to try and advance another starting position in that nights A-Main. While it looked like he had a run on the multiple WA Champion, Harding had to succumb to a second place, leaving him with a sixth place starting spot for the thirty lap finale.

The action at the start of the final was hectic with plenty of battles throughout the field. Harding had plenty of car speed from the get go and started to pick off a few cars in the early laps, making his way to third as the first red light stoppage brought the field to a stop. After the lengthy delay to remove the damaged vehicles from the track, the HR12 machine wasn't the same car it had been earlier and Harding went back a number of spots after the re-start.

Adapting to the changed handling of his 900hp Sprintcar, Harding started to try different lines on the circuit and started to put pressure back on the cars in front once again, only to have the left rear blow itself apart and ending his night.

“I’m not sure exactly what happened, whether or not the tyres went off or the air pressures changed, I could of run over something and cut the tyre, who knows really what caused it but that wasn't how we wanted to end our season” lamented Harding afterwards.

Once again Harding Racing showed just how much they have climbed up the sprintcar ladder this summer, with improved car speed that has placed them in a position to claim not just a number of good placings, but also their first big win in the Sprintcar ranks.

For now its time to take stock of what has happened this season and start planning for season 15/16. The cars have to be stripped down, parts, motors and chassis’s are checked to see if they can be used again or sold off to upgrade for next years campaign. Then orders are placed to upgrade to the new equipment required to tackle another forty plus nights of racing. The team has learnt a lot during the 14/15 campaign….things are looking up for next summer!!
