Big winners at Alexandra Speedways latest event were Sarah Meakins winning the Victorian Ladies Standard Saloon title & Donald Young the Junior Standard Saloon Victorian series round in a great night of racing from all competing divisions with Cameron Pearson, Nick Chrystie, Tim McPherson & Damien Miller winning their division finals also.

The Victorian Ladies Standard Saloon title attracted sixteen competitors with four time previous champion Kelly McDermott & defending champion Anne Gooding amongst them.

Meakins herself a former three time champion of the division was competing on her home track & got amongst the wins in heat racing. Wins went the way of Tegan Bullard, Meakins, Tracey Ingram, Meakins again & Trish Dike.

Visiting New South Wales racer Kim Eames was hurt in heat racing requiring hospitalisation & is recovering from her injuries whilst all other competitors started the final.

The twenty five lap event got underway with a spin by Bullard whilst second in front of the rest of the field causing a crash involving others who couldn’t avoid her stricken Commodore, Sonia Nelson & Sammi Mowat were amongst those & couldn’t restart.

Meakins at the restart got away form Dike & quickly worked to put distance between herself and the others which included, Dike, Ingram, McDermott, Emily Porter, Melissa Tatterson & Gooding who were trying to stick with her.
Meakins car dropped a plug & was running on five & the field still couldn’t catch her as she rounded up backmarkers running the high line around the top end of the track to perfection.

When the chequered dropped Meakins in a popular home club victory had defeated Dike, McDermott, Ingram & Gooding with Sharon Morrison, Tatterson, Amanda Burrows, Michelle Sinclair, Bridgette Morgan & Renee Parsons.

In the Junior Standard Saloon series round three heat races were completed with visiting Wangaratta youngster Liam Powell the winner in the first. Alexandra member Donald Young a team mate of Meakins, then won the next two heat races to qualify pole position in the final.

Much like Meakins, Young was also dominant in the final & very good in traffic. Powell tried in vain to catch Young whilst Courtney Meakins (daughter of Sarah) passed Ty Hutton to take third place with Hutton & Adrian Lawrence rounding out the top five places.

Pearson won all three heat race events he competed in before winning the feature in the national Junior Sedan final defeating Caleb Lincoln, Ricky Cornwall, Wayne Furmston & Jack Van Breman & Nick Chrystie won his first ever final when he was too good for Dale Morrison, Geordie Love, Debbie Jones & Jason Meakins in the Standard Saloons.

Damien Miller won the Sports Sedans ahead of Ben Moon, Matt Ridd, Andrew Jordan & Daniel Unternahrer whilst Tim McPherson on points was awarded the win in the Unlimited Sedans.

Next meeting at Alexandra Speedway is April the 11th with all club classes scheduled headline by the Standard Saloon ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ 20/20.
