• The Sprintcars return to the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway this Sunday night with the longest race of the season as a field of over 20 drivers will contest the 4th Annual Moore Mechanical 40 Lap Sprintcar Marathon. The event will also double as round 9 of the QSS SA Sprintcar Shootout Series and it will be staged hot on the heels of the Australian Sprintcar Nationals (QSS Round 8) at Speedway City the night prior.

Going into the weekend Adelaide Hills resident Luke Dillon holds a commanding Series lead (38 points) despite not having won a round of the series this summer. This event will provide a great opportunity to break his duck having secured the inaugural Marathon in 2012 along with podium results in the other two races throughout the events short history. The Series leader will also enter the meeting having enjoyed a large amount of seat time over the past month after driving for Car Owner Ryan Lancaster in Western Australia.

Joining Dillon in the field will be the 2013 “Marathon Man” James McFadden, who will be looking for his first victory at the venue since his win in the 40 lapper two seasons ago. Fellow Queenslander Terry Bracken will also make the trek south with Terry making his first start at Murray Bridge since the 2005 Australian Championship. Mount Gambier’s Steven Lines, who has an outstanding record at Murray Bridge, will also be one of the main contenders and he is in great form after securing a runner-up result in the Australian Championship at Bunbury.

The Murray Bridge event will also see the welcomed return of Bordertown racer Dylan Jenkin to Series after winning three of the first five rounds contested prior to Christmas, including the Bill Wigzell Battle of the Bridge in October. Round 2 winner Scott Bogucki also re-joins the Series after winning the 360ci Allstars Series Championship last weekend while Michael Burford, who was a surprise winner of the last round, held at Speedway City will also be in the field next Sunday night.

Several other drivers to keep an eye on include, current Series runner-up Steven Caruso, local Murray Bridge hero Ryan Jones, who like Dillon has been racing out west for a Western Australian Car Owner, Mark Caruso, Keke Falland, Brendan Guerin, Jamie Cobby, the Pitt Boys and rookie standouts Aiden Hall and Brock Hallett.

Supporting the Sprintcars will be a further three open wheeled categories with the Des James Memorial for Lightning Sprints, Wingless Sprints and Formula 500’s. The AMCA Nationals will also be on the program.

The public gates will open into the venue at 3:30pm with Wheel Packing and Hot laps beginning at 5pm. The official racing program will begin at 6pm. Adult admission will be $25, Concession $20 with Children 12 – 15 years $15 and kids 11 years and under being admitted FREE.

The speedway will then have a short week to prepare for the return of the V8 Dirt Modifieds with the SA Title and the SA Super Sedan Title the following Saturday (March 14).
