• Defending World Series Sprintcars Champion Steven Lines finally broke through for his first series round win of the 2014/15 season with a masterful display of highline driving at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway. After starting from position three he drove past Brooke Tatnell and early race leader Dave Murcott on the top side of the race track to take what was an overdue victory.

Second across the line was Murcott with former Champion James McFadden making a breathtaking charge to third after starting from position 13. Local standout Daniel Pestka just missed a spot on the podium after an entertaining battle with McFadden while pole sitter Brooke Tatnell faded late in the race to finish fifth after encountering power steering issues.

Speedweek Champion Luke Dillon finished sixth with Robbie Farr, mark Caruso, Terry McCarl and Ryan Jones completing the top ten. Earlier Jones had set his first career World Series Sprintcars Quick Time.

Last weekend’s Classic winner Kyle Hirst had an A-Main to forget after being tangled up in an early race incident that also included Jamie Cobby. Chad Ely also ended up on the infield after rolling his #22 J&J on lap 2 of the main event.

With 39 cars in the pit area the heat action was intense with heat victories going to Ian Madsen, Scott Bogucki (2), Darren Jensen, McFadden (2), Dylan Jenkin and Jamie Veal.

The C-main was taken out by Jenkin while the B-Main saw Ely, Ricky Maiolo, Robbie Farr, Matt Egel, Jamie Veal and Daniel Harding progress into the A-Main.

Jordyn Brazier failed to take his spot in the heat draw after rolling in turn three during time trials.

A top class field of Formula 500’s were also on the program with cars from across South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia on hand to contest the King of the Bridge. The event was rescheduled after being rained out in late November.

At the completion of 25 laps it was Whyalla speedster Angelo Karoussis who led the entire distance and went on to win the final comfortably ahead of Victorians Chris Bellman and Terry Rankin. Fourth across the line was last year’s runner-up Lisa Walker with Andrew Priolo rounding out the top five.

Earlier in the afternoon the heat victories went the way of Rory Stevenson, Patrick Merritt, Jack Bell, Priolo, Brad Tink and Karoussis while Karoussis also won the Scotcher Race Fuels and Oils Dash and as a result started the feature event from the pole position.

Unfortunately one of the pre-race favourites Dylan Willsher didn’t get past hot laps after destroying his race car after hitting the turn two wall after a mechanical failure.

The next event at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway will be next Saturday night with the annual Auto Pro Murray Bridge Burn Out Classic while the Speedway action will return on February 14 with the South Australian Championships for both Wingless Sprints and Formula 500’s.
