• Drouin Speedway came alive for the last time before Christmas & under a beautiful blue sky, visiting divisions Wingless Sprints & SDAV Hot Rods joined club divisions for all levels of Standard Saloons along with VSC Open Sedans with Tony Moule driving a Wingless Sprint owned Drouin Speedway Club President Larry Evans taking a win in his division whilst Phil Jenkins won the ‘Legends Cup’ for the Hot Rods that was postponed from last season.

In Standard Saloon racing Tegan Bullard won the Ladies, Ty Hutton the Junior Standard Saloons & Ben Randall the Open Standard Saloons finals & Scott Angus came out on top in the Open Sedans.

The SDAV Hot Rod Club were running for series points & the before mentioned ‘Legends Cup’ & in three heat races wins went to Phil Jenkins, Shannon Meakins & Glenn Lawless. State Champion Dean West a local driver in Gippsland had a less than glorious start to the day muffing up the first heat, yet will be satisfied with eventually finishing behind a very determined Jenkins & young gun Meakins to finish in third place ahead of Allan Luckett & Lawless.

Wingless Sprints competed for points towards their state aggregate with Moule winning heat one and two & keen to make it three from three before he was penalised by stewards for driving incidents. Brett Kuypers was out from & numerous stoppages resulted in officials declaring the race and Kuypers the winner. Moule then led from start to finish in the final event to lead to the finish Troy Carey from Tullamore NSW, Wayne Hurford, Kuypers & Tearni Perkins.

The Standard Saloon track championship round was a welcome return for Ben Randall who went on to win two of his three heats with Bunyip’s Jeff Blencowe & Mark Miles from Pakenham winning the other two. Randall then led start to finish in the feature event to defeat Miles, Cory Horter, John Dike Jnr & Matt Nelson.

With some extra cars available to compete from other Victorian Speedway Council divisions the Unlimited Sedans became VSC Open Sedans for race day. Mick Evans took the first heat win with Daniel & then Scott Angus wrapping up the three heats. Scott Angus then jumped away at the start of the final & Daniel Angus got the better of Evans for some time before getting by into second to start the chase of Scott Angus. On the very last lap Evans was right behind & just couldn’t pass, Scott Angus, Evans, Daniel Angus, Eric Miles and Rob Tatterson from Trafalgar where the top five finishers.

Junior Standard Saloon car numbers were once again strong with the Victorian title for the division at the venue after Christmas. Ty Hutton, Bailey Perkins & Hutton a second time were winners of the heats. Some drama in the final with some of the stronger competitors Ally Morrison & Ambah Fythe coming unstuck whilst in the top five left Hutton to win ahead of Perkins & Courtney Meakins.

The Ladies' racing began well for Tracey Ingram who took a win in the first heat in a strong battle with Sonia Nelson before Tegan Bullard took a win in the next two heats. Bullard got the best start in the final & Ingram found herself on the wrong end of the steward’s decision ending with a black flag & disqualification from the race before Bullard took the win from Nelson & rookie driver Steph Evans & Vanessa Coleman. Rookie racer Amanda Burrows had her first big crash against the back straight wall eliminating her from racing.
