• Dubbo City Speedway Club kicked off in October with its first race meeting of the season where the RSA Street Stock NSW title was run & won, now the club sets it sights on even bigger events culminating in the Australian Production Sedan title in April, the biggest event of the season.

Dubbo has great support from around local areas and other nearby regional cities with drivers at the last meeting coming from Newcastle, Mudgee, Gilgandra & as far away as Leeton down south & Gympie in Queensland to race & that is a theme that is likely to continue throughout the season as drivers come to acclimatise to the venue.

The Dubbo club has a great venue, which is one of the best tracks in the country. This would not have been possible without the vision and hard work of previous promoters Darren & Leanne Anning followed by Lachlan& Danielle Onley who have undoubtedly elevated the track to its current status.

With the track now been ran by the Dubbo club and with support from the local business community and the people of Dubbo the central west momentum is starting to build for the club.

This momentum continues with Ian Boland the club President, Wayne Alchin Vice president & Terri Alchin-Spears in partnership with the club members working hard to build mutually beneficial relationships in town.

"Speedway is a market largely untapped by local business. We talk to proprietors about how they can best get something in return from speedway by supporting us financially or through product/service. At most events it isn’t a far stretch to say we would have 200 out of towners converge on Dubbo that have to buy fuel, eat food, stay somewhere, spend a day in Dubbo etc. Come Australian title time that number is set to lift to potentially 500 or more out of towners in town for four to five days." shared Boland.

The venue not only thrills motoring enthusiasts with their monthly dose of octane action, it gives families somewhere to go at a reasonable price together to enjoy quality time as a family & it provides a option for children to learn to drive a car in a safe environment as a Junior Speedway racer.

Dubbo City Speedway has become a major venue in New South Wales and that is evidenced by the two national titles the club will host this season, the Fender Bender national title for those that like cars crashing into each other deliberately & the Production Sedan title where side by side, three to four wide Ford v Holden racing is thrilling right to the finish.

The success of these major events can be assured by local support into the not for profit club, which will then flow on with the venue being able to continue the entertainment into the next season securing further major events. Local business people should get in touch with Ian Boland at the club via this email account & Ian will make contact with you to discuss what you’re looking to provide & how the club can help you get something out of your support.

Looking at the calendar the next event is fast approaching on December the 6th with a Northern Rivers Wingless Sprint series round the major event & also class divisions including Junior Sedans, Production Sedans, Fender Benders, Open Sixes & (Club) Super Sedans.

A little Christmas break is then taken before returning on the 7th of February for the Fender Bender Australian title, a round of the NSW Super Sedan series, Production Sedans, Junior Sedans, Open Sixes & the visiting Mod Lites which will be a very entertaining show from the crash & bash of the Benders, to the big powerful 366ci V8 Super Sedans.

March the 14th is the following race date with all club divisions again before the Easter weekend race meeting which will include a round of the NSW Fast Fours divisions (4 cylinder sedans) & a round of the Newcastle Street Stocker Series where drivers such as the Trent Keeler who just won the NSW title at Dubbo return. All club divisions are again on this race program.

Finally the season rounds out on Anzac Day weekend with the Australian Production Sedan national title with events from the 23rd of April where practice at the venue and a calcutta to be held then racing on the 24th a Friday night & 25th the Saturday night with the 26th being a rain out date if the event is affected by weather.

This event alone should attract fifty competitors just for the one division with drivers from Western Australia, all over Queensland & New South Wales along with drivers from Portland in Victoria & the Murray River region & our local Dubbo racers are a healthy chance of causing an upset against Tim Atkins the current champion, multiple national champion Stephen Laidlaw, Frank Packer the New South Wales champion & a plethora of national rated West Aussies.

To become a part of the team either through support or as a member & share enthusiasm for motoring & good old family fun email Ian at [email protected]
