RYAN Farrell, Jamie Maiolo and Cameron Gessner occupied the first three positions in the opening round of the AHG Sprintcar Series that was contested at the Perth Motorplex on Tuesday night.

Here’s what they had to say…

CAMERON GESSNER (started 5th, finished 3rd).

“We were pretty fast, we just had to deal with traffic, but congratulations to Ryan and that team, they are a quality operation.

Thanks to Steve (car owner Steve Duggan), thanks to the crowd for coming out on a Tuesday night, hopefully that is our one rain out for the year and hope you enjoyed yourselves.”

JAMIE MAIOLO (started 6th, finished 2nd).

“We were probably a little bit tight in the car but it was manageable and we were going forward and had a couple of good cracks at the starts there.

It’s good to end up second here for all our sponsors, APB, Ausquip, Heatleys, KC Tools, Mobil 1, Panelworks and all those great bunch of sponsors we have got there

It was just a bit disappointing we had to take the chequered flag twice, I’ve never done that before.”

RYAN FARRELL (started on pole, finished 1st).

“I am just exhausted mate, I don’t ever recall it being this difficult.

You know I got lucky at the end there the boys caught me, I made a couple of bad calls in lapped traffic…I was struggling and my fitness is nowhere near where it needs to be.

My neck went on about lap eight but I am not complaining, I am very fortunate to be back here, it’s been a long, hard road back for me.

The last couple of years of my life have been my hardest ever you know, a lot harder than winning any sprintcar feature races that’s for sure.

I am just very grateful to be up here, I have got a lot of people to thank…my family who have backed me 110 per cent, all my fans…the only support and feedback I have had has been positive.

I couldn’t ask for more, the speedway family has just been awesome, it’s really helped my recovery and to help me get me to get back up here.

And of course to this team showing great faith in me when probably they shouldn’t have.

I did wrong by them a couple of years ago and for them to have shown the trust in me and let me back in this great race car is just awesome.
