• Drouin Speedway Club kicked off its season with a great day of action involving all club divisions, visiting vintage clubs & the Crash & Bash association providing entertainment that kept everybody happy.

The Crash & Bash division pulls a great crowd from the eastern suburb areas into the little West Gippsland venue & nine heat races were ran to determine the starting order for the forty lap final.

Ryan Brown, Brad Warren, Jason McKendry, Daniel Jorgen, McKendry again, Peter Cox, Lenny Bates, Frank Sinclair & Jake Young all won the heat races that determined that the McKendry brothers of Jason & Craig would start on the front row ahead Bates & the field.

In the final Jason McKendry & Bates at various stages of the race held the lead with the other chasing. Yellow light stoppages for cars that were stuck in awkward places on the track probably caused more havoc at resumption as the leaders had to round up groups of back markers rather than a spread out field & Bates towards the end of the race whilst leading got stuck in a tangle entering the dog leg and McKendry pounced & Bates just couldn’t recover to get back in the hunt.

Jason McKendry won from Bates, Finley Burke, Sinclair & Cox.

In the Standard Saloon Track Championship first round Dale Morrison from the suburb of Officer easily accounted for the rest of the field defeating good friend Brad Hill by around half a lap distance in the final with John Watson, Jeff Blencowe & Travis Evans rounding out the top five.

The Junior Standard Saloons were also very entertaining with six youngsters giving it their best. Three of them were much quicker than the rest & each took turns at leading races during the day with Traralgon’s Adrian Lawrence coming out ahead of Michael Suckling & Ally Morrison in the final with Sean McNeil, Jack Yeomans & Gemma Laidlaw completing the result in fourth to sixth.

The Unlimited Sedans had some good competition & with indications that other drivers are prepared to come to Drouin from next race meeting the competition could get a little stiffer. Wayne Nelson from Woori Yallock was too strong for Shannon Burke & Tim Hutchinson in the final.

Tegan Bullard defeated Bridgette Morgan in the Ladies Standards in a series of match races between the two & the Vintage Super Modifieds Paul Woodgate was the stand out driver in their division on the day with Glen Barnett & Rob Watson also driving their machines well as did Victor O’Neill, Bob Moloney & Bill O’Neill in the Ace of Spades vintage sedans club.

Drouin Speedway next is open on November the 9th with racing from 11am featuring the VSC Unlimited Sedans Track Championship first round, Eliminator Cup for Standard Saloons and Gippsland Zone title for Mini Sprints.
