• DESPITE getting married early in the season Troy Beckingham still plans to contest most of the AHG Sprintcar Series at the Perth Motorplex.

Beckingham will miss the opening meeting of the season on October 18 and the Magic Man 34 on November 1 – the day he gets married.

He then plans to run as many meetings as possible, apart from the Boxing Day Bonanza at the Motorplex on December 26.

The second-generation racer is hoping to improve on an incident-packed 2013-14 season that saw him crash out up a dozen times.

“It was a horrible season, I think I finished about five feature races out of the season,” Beckingham said.

The big number of DNFs didn’t damper his enthusiasm for the sport but being a budget racer it certainly had an impact.

“I was still pretty enthused, but the hardest thing is the money…that one crash with Ian Loudoun totally wrecked the chassis.”

Despite the hiccups Beckingham has two complete Maxim chassis at his disposal and his motor has been rebuilt.

He is also looking at taking delivery of a new GF1 chassis.

“They seem to be doing the thing in America at the moment and are supposed to be similar to Maxim with all the bits from one bolting onto the other.”

Beckingham said he was hoping things would turn around and he would not be a magnet for crashes or bad luck, despite running the green livery on the Dragon Industrial entry #24.

The highlight of the season was a fifth in one feature race and “I learnt a lot of new things throughout the year too”.

Beckingham also has a couple of new guys on the team that will take the pressure of himself as far as pre-race preparation and on race night goes.

He is also helping prepare for the wedding to fianc Fallon and after a honeymoon in Bali will be ready to go racing.
