• Mark Brown has got his Easter Tri City Speedcar Series off to a winning start by taking out the opening round on Easter Friday at the Tolmer Speedway in Bordertown. After securing the win in the six lap dash Brown led the entire 20 lap journey to defeat Queenslander Anthony Chaffey and Western Australian Todd Waddell in what was an entertaining night of Speedcar racing.

Fourth across the line was the first of locals with Graham Knuckey just edging out a hard charging Todd Bennett, who was forced to start deep in the field after being involved in a three car incident during the second round of heats. Nathan Squiers, Dave May, Tim Caddy and Craig Smith rounded out the finishers in the 14 car field.

Earlier the heat wins went the way of Brown, Chaffey, Paul Farrell and Todd Waddell.

The action packed evening also included the 360ci Sprintcars, Super Sedans, the Formula 500 Battle of the Border and the South Australian Limited Sportsman Championship.

The 360ci Sprintcars saw a field of seven drivers take to the track with Shannon Barry continuing his recent run of form winning the 20 lap final from local racer Dylan Jenkin and impressive teenager Dan Evans. After securing a heat win and a second placing, to Dan Evans in heat one, Barry was clearly the most outstanding driver on the night and he was a deserving winner.

The first event on the “Super Sedan Speedweek” was also conducted with eight cars taking to the Tolmer high banks but it was current Australian Champion Matt Pascoe who held out the advances of Dave Gartner to claim the 15 lap finale. Third across the line was Wayne Brimms with Matt Williams, Steve Pearce, Justin Smithwick and Paul Blenkiron completing the finishers. Current Western Australian Champion Kodee Brown was to start the final from position three but he rolled out of the gate with a flat left hand rear tyre putting pay to his chances. Gartner and Pascoe were the heat winners.

The Formula 500 “Battle of the Border” proved to be the Brock Hallett benefit as he won both heat races and the final while Joe Aston continued his reign as the South Australian Limited Sportsman Champion as he won the final ahead of Kahn Aston and Jock Baker.

Tonight the action will continue at the Murray Bridge Speedway with the South Australian Championships for both Speedcars and Super Sedans.
