After starting on the outside of the front row and he went on to lead the entire 35 lap journey in the Dave Challons owned Camden Neon Signs #45 J&J and he will be hoping for a similar performance this Saturday night.
  • Riverland based Sprintcar competitor Chris Evans returned from his trip to Western Australia last weekend in red hot form as he claimed his second consecutive 7 Day Spares 360ci Sprintcar Challenge at the Broken Hill Speedway. After winning two of his four heat races Evans started on the pole and led the entire 25 lap final. Second across the line was local resident, and event sponsor, Darryl Guerin with Mark Caruso completing the podium in third position.

  • The mighty Minisprints headed into the hills to contest the sixth round of the Solid Axle Super Series at the challenging Alexandra track. The car numbers for the night were a little down, perhaps the pressure of the Victorian Title took its toll. To make the situation worse we had a tow vehicle breakdown leaving one car stranded on the highway somewhere and the promising new engine in the #69 car suffering flywheel failure ending his night.

  • Jeremy Cross put in arguably his best drive of his rookie season last Saturday night (March 10) to take his first top ten finish in the New South Wales State Titles at Parramatta City Raceway (PCR).
  • Well everyone knows the results, here is the inside take. We ventured from Perth halfway around the world to arrive in a magnificent little town called Gilgandra. The team was pumped and Dene was ready to turn it on as always. The NSW club did and excellent job in both getting club cars to the show and organising a meet and great in the heart of the town on Saturday. After putting the car on show we headed back to the motel for some rest and then off to the track.

Last night Simpson Speedway hosted a round of the SRA Super Sprint Series which doubled as the Southern Showdown. It was an absolute credit to the small rural track and its band of volunteer workers. A well presented facility, a super racy track and a standing room only crowd all ingredients of a highly successful event.
  • In front of a packed crowd at Simpson Speedway for the rescheduled Round 7 of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Super Sprintcar Series last night (March 11), Victorian Sprintcar Champion Matthew Reed won his second feature event for the weekend. Reed, who now sits second in the series, held off a fast Mike Van Bremen. In third was a delighted Daniel Newnham on his home track.

  • The volunteer run Simpson Speedway in South West Victoria played host to a massive two nights of racing over this Labour Day Long Weekend. As a volunteer commentator, I was moved to jot down some thoughts on the Simpson Speedway and a wonderful weekend of racing.
  • The Labour day long weekend saw 13 Super Rods venture over the border to compete at Adelaide’s Speedway City, where Melton hard charger Jason Kavanagh went on to claim the Richmond Heavy Towing Adelaide Cup.

  • The Wild n Wingless travel south to Margaret River this weekend to do battle in the latest round of the Premier Plating All Star Speedcars. The series is wide open at the moment and it’s all about being consistent throughout the series and that is exactly what the Casurina Panel Beater Dale Alfirevich is going to continue to do heading into this round. Alfirevich currently in the lead has been piloting the Phil Moore owned FIGhter for several seasons and continues to improve his driving and still remains competitive using the V4 Scat powerplant.

  • Australian champion Michael Gee rewrote the record books at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway last night (Saturday, March 10), storming to victory in round seven of the 2006/2007 National Super Sedan Series. Gee qualified his Westpoint Autos Taurus in pole position and led throughout the 30-lap feature event, duplicating his performance from the previous evening with an emphatic result in round two of the Speedway Racing News Triple Crown that sets the scene for a thrilling finish to the championship at Murray Bridge tonight.
  • Victorian Sprintcar Champion Matthew Reed continued his run of impressive form last night (March 10) at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway in the $5000 to win Great Southern Showdown / Round 10 of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Super Sprintcar Series. The win was somewhat bitter sweet, however, when good friend Mike Van Bremen failed to refire after a restart while running in first position.

  • Bryan Mann could not be happier with last nights racing, having finally found something to really make the Lusty Low Loaders / Ri-Co engineering / Performance Wholesale / Capalaba Wreckers J&J work for him, and after some unavoidable misfortunes in his first heat Bryan proved to everyone just how far he’s come and how much he, and the team, have learnt over the past few months, and brought the always immaculately presented #16 from starting seventh in the B-Main, to finish a very credible eighth in the gruelling 25-lap affair.
  • With a line-up of 40 Sprintcars at Brisbane International Speedway last night, the season well into it’s closing stages and several points battles really starting to heat up – there was never any doubt that it would be a night of racing that won’t soon be forgotten. It was round seven of the Comp Cams Sprintcar Series and with Andrew Scheuerle, Darren Jensen, Steven White, Ben Wright, and Peter Thorley all right up in the points ladder in both the Comp cams Series and the Club Championship, the race was on. But despite their best efforts to hold everyone else at bay, it was Peter Lack who stole the show and became the talk of the pits. While only just missing out on the win, Peter put on some of the best racing seen at BIS in recent history. Favouring the high line for virtually the entire race distance, he came from eighth on the grid and came through to finish second behind Thorley, and ahead of Andrew Scheuerle, Steven White and Ricky Mitchell.
  • Steve ellicott won the feature saturday night at tamworth speedway but not without dramas. After loosing a motor in hotlaps & more mechanical wows for heat 1 was able to get back on track to win the remaining 2 heats and feature races.
  • Robert Trapp drove a sensational race to claim the final round of the HDS Modified Production Series held at Charlton Raceway on Saturday 10th March. Over the 25 lap main event there were four different race leaders, including Todd Doyle, Shane Langton, Mark Ferguson and Robert Trapp.
  • Simpson Speedway played host to the S.D.A.V club on March 10th for a round of the entertaining state Thunder Down Under series. It was the first time for a couple of months that the S.D.A.V drivers have had to race with just their own class and 8 keen race drivers arrived at the picturesque little racetrack not far out of Colac.

  • The Australian 360ci Sprintcar Championship is fast approaching and as the time clock counts down towards the event I thought I had better get in contact with Ray Bartlett (owner of the reigning Australia 1 team) for a chat and as always you never know what to expect! Sometimes Ray is very intense and focused and other times he is a laugh and can have you aching as he splits your sides with laughter. When I caught up with him on this occasion he was working hard in the work shop.
